Frequently Asked Questions
Below are some answers to common questions about therapy, my approach, and what you can expect when getting started. If you don’t see your question here, feel free to reach out.
Getting Started
-
You don’t have to be in crisis or know exactly what’s “wrong” to start therapy. If you find yourself struggling with intense emotions, recurring patterns or behaviors, difficult memories, or feeling stuck despite trying to make changes on your own, therapy may be a good fit. We can work together to understand what you’re experiencing and determine whether approaches like DBT or EMDR may be helpful for your goals.
-
I often see clients who may have been diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder, Complex or Acute Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, ADHD, and Bipolar Disorders.
These are certainly not requirements! I work with folks experiencing increased difficulty with emotional regulation due to anxiety, depression and life transitions as well.
-
The goal of a therapy consultation is for both you and I to decide, at least initially, if we’re a good fit. The call is 15-20 minutes, focused on assessing need, as well as discussing scheduling, fees and initial expectations for therapy.
-
At this time, all therapy sessions are offered exclusively online through a a HIPAA compliant, secure telehealth platform. Services are currently available to clients located in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey, California, and Florida, in accordance with state licensure.
-
Yes! I have extensive experience working with LGBTQ+ individuals, and my practice is affirming of all sexual orientations and gender identities. I use your correct name and pronouns, and understand that identity-related stressors — like coming out, family dynamics, or navigating a world that isn't always safe — often show up alongside whatever else brings you to therapy.
Therapy Approach & Sessions
-
Online therapy gives you the flexibility to meet from a private, comfortable space that works for you. We’ll meet virtually through a secure platform and will follow the same collaborative, personalized approach as in-person therapy. Before your first session, you’ll receive information about how to access your appointment.
-
At the beginning of a session, I typically invite you to share what’s been going on since we last met, and how you’re feeling. You won’t be criticized, interrupted or judged as you speak.
I may give clients some homework to complete after a session. That homework might be to practice a coping skill we practice. It may be to journal or have that tough conversation we talked about. During your next session, we might check in on your “homework” and address any areas where you got frustrated, stuck, or off-track. That being said, there is no pressure, and not doing homework, won’t be judged!
-
If you’re scheduled for a 60 minute session, we’ll be working together for about 53-57 minutes.
If you’re scheduled for 90 minutes, the session will be about 80-85 minutes.

Reach out through the contact form for a consultation, and we’ll talk scheduling!

Yes. I offer a sliding scale to help make therapy more accessible. The Green Bottle Method is used to help determine a session fee that feels appropriate to your current financial circumstances. You can learn more here.
-
The Green Bottle Method is a values-based approach to sliding scale pricing that recognizes that people’s financial circumstances can vary. The method invites you to consider factors such as financial stability, access to resources, and current responsibilities when determining what you’re able to contribute toward therapy. You can find an in depth description with reflection questions here.
